Out of morbid curiousity I went and looked at the thread. This has more to
do with her admitting she's using a cracked version of Agent than anyone
"stalking" her. She offered the code to someone, the whole newsgroup called
her on it, she went through her whole 'poor me' life story as justification
for stealing software and no one was impressed. Of course she can't admit
she was wrong so it has to be someone else's fault.

She's done that before. It's extremely easy to figure out who she is. She
apparently can't give up her need to be a drama queen and the center of
attention.

im an open source kinda girl, usually using a linux platform, so im not all
that up to speed on what the difference is using a cracked version of
software... (btw, i do know *what* it is... i just dont get why anybody
cares)...why would the entire newsgroup even care enough to talk about it -
unless it was some anti piracy ng? if that was a criteria for not using
usenet --- hell half of usenet is warez and pr0n. all my software is free
according to the GPL agreements and all that... but honestly, whats the
difference? how many of you can honestly say you paid for every single
piece of software, and you never installed a game somebody brought you or
whatever...

actually dont admit it if its such a big deal.. but really... is it? i
realize it might not be right, so i hope that doesnt start somebody
lecturing me on it all... but i dunno, its so commonplace i wouldnt even
think twice if she had a cracked version of agent. i dunno.. theres so much
more to get upset about in life, thats such small potatoes.

store...would that be no big deal? Is that any different than stealing

On usenet, you have to remember, this stuff is written down for all to see.
When you go to the trouble to write something, your words just burn right
out of the page at people. People will challenge you every time...this form
of communication basically invites it.

on the linux platform, just about everything is open source... in other
words.. lets say you're at a car dealership. you want to buy a car and look
under the hood and make sure everything is as you want. at a linux
dealership, he would say, 'sure, no problem'.. at a windows dealership, the
hood would be welded shut and the product is sold 'as is'.

the only difference is, just about all the linux software is free. its
downloadable online - the entire operating system is free. the
programs/applications are free. most support is free. the downside is you
have to kind of know what youre doing, but you can get help-- for free.

this link explains open source software, but im willing to answer whatever
questions you have... although it is probably WAY off topic for this group.

Exactly. There's plenty of legally free software available. Just because
some of it's free doesn't mean it's ok to steal what isn't.

There actually is a difference, in that stealing implies depriving the
owner of something of their property. Copying software doesn't do this.
It may, however, deprive them of their livelihood, so it's
counterfeiting, not stealing - I think this distinction is correct.

Why you'd bother for most applications is beyond me. There's so much
free stuff which is at least equal in quality you can do everything for
free. This is one of my pet projects - Never pirate software, and never
pay for it either.
