of metal and maybe a loud thump and perhaps some yelling.

Well, it wasn't racing a bike, but many years ago, I broke my tibia down
by the ankle and it sounded like a gun shot. The next door neighbor was in
his backyard and said he heard it. But you're right, most of the time
there's no bone breaking sound.

That was the beginning of the end of my skateboarding days.

I borke my radius & ulna simlutaneously and it cracked pretty loudly!
It looked pretty ugly.
Sounded not like a gun shot -- and I have been shot before point blank by a

A stupid, careless mishandling of the gun during a reload.
We were shooting at bottles on a fence.
I was in the hospital for two weeks. I learned a lot from it.
(it feels like being hit in the guts by a heavyweight boxer then
a red-hot sword slowly being pushed into you)

Last year riding to work I cracked and fractured my scapula (in the
Presidio, where it bottoms out into Crissy Field).
