Keeping more than 2 takes great skill and planning. It's open to
debate but 5 bikes is pretty [censored] 🙂 Double figures and you're
a full on [censored] 😄 Two would be your standard adulterer 😉
Problem is, it's a very slippery slope beyond three or four. I mean, you've made it clear that you're not a one bike person, so it's so much easier to go from (say) four to five as from two to three.
A few of the people I ride with make reference to the "n+1" rule. The optimum number of bicycles to own at any given moment is always one more than the number you own presently.

Now this is developing into a very interesting theory - zero-bike people are clearly different from one-bike people (of which I'm a member), but there is also a great leap from one-bike people to multi-bike people. The multi-bike people may be loosely termed "enthusiasts", but the 2-3 bike people might not be "real" enthusiasts in that they want to specialise their bike usage, but only up to a point - they collect a limited number of bikes, generally to fulfil usage requirements. The 4-and-up bike people are the Enthusiasts Proper - ie, collect/build/rebuild/rescue bikes for the love of doing it. The Enthusiasts Proper would certainly follow the N+1 rule! Unfortunately, I follow the "Garden shed full" rule 🙂 (the SWMBO rule is far too controversial)
