  1. It's also dependent on personal experience. I'm lucky in that I can deduct
sugar alcohols but a lot of people, like my BF, can't because they do
    digest them.

I have strong opinion about net carbs:

Deducting fiber - real. Deducting anything else
based on label claims - nonsense.

It gives me a conservative count.

Curious as to what will testing before bedtime tell you?

If you're very low you need a snack, if you're high you shouldn't have one.
If you're much higher fasting than you were the night before, you might have
to start snacking at bedtime to avoid a liver dump or need to test in the
middle of the night also to find out why and when your BG is rising. If
you are taking insulin or drugs that make insulin and have high FBG you may
need to adjust your dosage or timing.

Some fiber is soluble, some is insoluble.

Given the natural human tendency to underestimate carbs and caories,
you're better off just to count count 'gross' carbs (and calories) and
    leave it at that.

No, you're better off to count net carbs without underestimating
    content/portion.

    Quoted message said:

Not subtracting fiber amounts from total carbs gives you an unrealistic
view of what your intake is doing to your blood sugar, and will lead you
    to under-eating fiber-rich vegetables vs fat/protein-rich meat/dairy.

'Net carbs' is pretty much a bunch of marketing [censored].

Certainly nothing wrong with eating a fiber rich diet; I just believe
in calling a spade a spade. It's also worth noting that some fiber
    calories do count.

  4. For the purpose of LC, we're counting net carbs as it relates to blood
sugar and insulin response. No fibre, soluble or insoluble, requires
insulin to process by the body.

Would that be the royal "we"?

You seem to be rather fond of speaking for 'we' and 'us'; and it's not
the first time you've attempted that tactic with me.

[1] Learn to speak for yourself, not "we".
[2] Go back and read what OP actually asked.

  6. Yes, that would be the royal "we". Which LC plan are you following that
doesn't use blood glucose and insulin response as it's main focus?
The OP's original question is in the subject. He merely repeated it again
in the body of the message. He did not specify whether it was in reference
to LC plans or counting calories, but since this is an LC newsgroup, I
chose to respond to it on the basis of LC and made that clear.
I don't understand why you're getting so uppity about my response. You
responded to the message in reference to calories. I responded in
reference to LC. Different points of view on the same subject.

lol, for pre-beddy bye entertainment, maybe.

  8. Sure seems extra nasty in here lately. Is everyone suffering from the heat?
or starving themselves to fit in a bikini? or maybe they're all teachers,
off for the summer, with no student to yell at.
