I understand Rest but not ice, compressin and elevation. I know ice is to reduce swelling and inflamation but why interfere with the natural healing process? I have no idea why you would compress an injury. Im guessing elevation reduces blood flow to the injured area? but why?
The inflammatory process, necessary to life as a defense mechanism, can damage tissue in the early stages following injury. It "overreacts" (for want of a better term). Why? Perhaps something went awry in our evolutionary process. So we try to moderate it or keep it in check, by constricting blood vessels and keeping swelling out of the area until it settles down and behaves itself.
Truthfully, I cant buy that millions of years of evolution could be wrong. Maybe we are just old and nature never wanted us to live past 30. Have you seen what a 30 yr old female looks like in the morning??

honestly, i dont think any man should have to experience seeing a 30 plus female in the morning. Regardless, the point is that nature never planned for us to live this long.
