I just got back from a trip to the Post Office and a few errands. It's been snowing for an hour or two and it's dark.
But with a warm hat and mittens, toeclips, full mudguards over tubs and a side-mount dynamo, my fixed was just a joy. Manueverable through lines of stopped cars, comfortable and just altogether fun.

At my Post Office, where they have a lobby for the PO Box holders that is open 24 hours a day and where I can visit a clerk who will give me my package when _I_ am ready for it, instead of waiting around for UPS to come by, you can park your bike in the well lit lobby.
What's a tub? Fat tire?

Well I wasn't on my fixie (no lights) but I did ride my commute bike right up to the lobby doors of the post office and went in to buy stamps from the machine. There was a line of cars trying to get into the parking lot and I was out of there before 2 or 3 made it off the street.

If Mr. Muzi is going from his shop to the Post Office just south of the Capital Building, it would be faster for him to walk than to drive in most cases.

We're on the cusp of two Zip codes; I usually mail from the other one (UW Station, west of here) and ran errands in that neighborhood.

Park your Ford Expedition close as you legally can to the Yellow Jersey shop during a weekday when the UW is in session, and meet me there. We will both go to the University Square Post Office, and then back to Yellow Jersey, me walking and you driving your Expedition (again, parking it legally at both places). I have little doubt who would finish first (and not have to spend money on parking).
