Ditto Neil's recommendation.
My KHS and all the KHS bikes I've seen come standard with one of these.
The cool thing was it would have been the bell I'd choosen if it hadn't
come with one.
If I could choose again I'd probably get one of their "ding dong" brass
bells instead of the tiny original, though the bar-end bell is pretty
neato.
I average about five rings here before I get anybody's attention, and a
good portion of the time, I get giggled at. People in the US aren't
"trained" to what a bike bell sounds like. If I'm on a shared bike/ped
path in Gothenburg, Sweden and ring my bell, pedestrians seem to
automatically give way without looking back. Might be time for a more
powerful bell.
FWIW, if you have a traditional quill stemmed road bike, mounting the bell
on the stem keeps the look nice and neat. I even had a lyrcra clad rider
ask me the other day, "hey, what's that on your stem?" LOL
