  1. So, there's this honeymoon thing planned for the week of the
29th. We're staying at Vail. The plan was to have a nice ski
vacation, but I'm starting to think that alternate plans may
be in order -- it's been awfully warm. Any
picks/pans/commentary on the area? Will trails most likely
be open and usable by then?

Not likely. Better stick to the original plan. Trails in
that area won't be open til May or June this year. Unless
you count the lower stuff that is not really worth
    mentioning.

There was some snow / ice on Matthew Winters on Saturday
(about 6000 ft elev.). I'm pretty sure that the trails

    month... Congratulations.

I don't think the trails will be usable so early in the
spring. Sometimes there is snow on them in July at higher
elevations. If by some odd chance it is clear and you don't
want to travel too far to get to the trailhead, there is a
trail that starts at the Eagles Nest and works it's way down
into Minturn. From there you roadie back to Vail (mostly
downhill) or you can go back the way you came (plan a whole
day for this excursion). You'll have to ask a local for the
exact start of the trail, I never seem to be able to locate
    it when I try myself.

I only ride there once a year, so don't be such a grouch.

I called my computer vendor in Denver (the guy I ride with
when I'm in Vail). He said the trail name is Two Elk.

You'd think that since you are such a well versed rocky
mountain boy, you could give her the directions to the
trail or are you just better at spouting negative nonsense
    most of the time?

I always find it amusing when tourons think they know
anything about somewhere they might visit once in a
    great while.

So, you have to make a LD phone call to find the name of a
tr you claim to ride annualy. That's not surprising,
    considering the source.

It's a well know fact that I don't post location information
anymore because of all of the barneys and lamer lurkers. In
case you hadn't noticed, the OP is a newbie at best and
anyone with half an ounce of common sense wouldn't send a
newbie onto Two Elk. If the OP is so lame that they can't
find a phone number or email address to a LBS in the Vail
area and inquire themselves, they deserve the misinformation
they get from clueless fools on the east coast.

I never claimed to ride it "anually". The "ride there once a
year" was pertaining to Vail. I can show you my bill from
the Hotel if your are interested.

Now don't go starting an east/west thing. I think that's
been done before and gets nowhere fast. Unlike you, I am
happy to point someone to a place I think is special. How
will a Barney ever become a JD if they don't get to ride
the "nice" trails. Why should the OP have to do all that
extra research when there are plenty of "nice" people in
    this ng to help.

Can I come visit you, JD? I think you would find we have a
lot in common. We could go for a ride on one of your
"exclusive" trails and you could tell me all about how much
better you are than me and the rest of the world. I'll even
nod my head affirmatively to make you feel good. Or, why
don't you come out here to the land of east coast fast
tawkas (spelled that way on purpose). I'll show you my
"exclusive" trails built on toxic waste dumps (keeps the
Barney's away) and even buy you a beer.

Sounds like I'll just have to ski my legs off instead. And
if I can't do that, I'll just have to suffer the in-room
    massages =)

Man, I'm looking forward to a week of pampering. I'm
starting to understand why honeymoons are so popular -- you
need them after all of the pre-wedding stress!

Have a great time! Vail is great anytime of the year.
Expensive, but great. Where are you staying? I'm staying at
the Vail Marriott (rebuilt after a fire three years ago)
this year, stayed there last year, and the Vail Cascade five
years prior. All great places (the Marriott has A/C and
Internet in the rooms, which I can't live without). If
you're looking for a wonderful elegant dinner, try Sweet
Basil in the village. Best meal in Vail, IMO.

I'll be staying at the Lodge, right at the base of the Vista
Bahn Express. We lucked out -- our honeymoon coincides
precisely with the end of prime-season lodging rates. So we
are paying just over half what we would have a week earlier.
Still enough to make me gulp, though, even for the most
    basic room.

I'll definitely keep Sweet Basil in mind =) Thank you.

No Thanks is needed. I just think it is kind of humorous
that the real bad fathers are playing puppet again. It is
crystal clear that you, and other members have disdain for a
person you have never met. I will give you some easy steps
for picking on people in this NG.
    1) Google the NG for said member.
    2) Post a reply in any thread the member has responded to
and insult them. Make sure you mention facts.
    3) Wait for a reply that indicates irritation. Success....
It is that easy! Go ahead and try.
