I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to that, I guess I wouldn't buy a
proper one if it cost much more. Last time I was at London Recumbents
they implied that they usually get 3 ordinary chains, and that a
Hurricane apparently needs 2 and a bit.

Chains linked by SRAM Powerlinks are very reliable, and there's no reason
why more than one Powerlink shouldn't be used in a chain on any cycle.

The Streetmachine comes with multiple powerlinks connecting "normal"
chains as standard. I wasn't particularly aware of special recumbent
chains, and as PB suggests, there's nothing obvious to gain.

I've always joined chains together and never had any trouble. I use SRAM 8
speed components at about 8gbp a piece. I know some makes of chain are
more complicated to join so the answer may be that it depends?

My SWB takes about 2.5 chains.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll do that soon. Basically I rode it
around in salty [censored] conditions, then left it for two weeks and the
chain rusted badly. Needs to be a tad longer as well, so all round a
Good Thing [TM]

Chain Reaction knock a few quid off if you buy three at once, FWIW. I did
so earlier this month. With three recumbents to feed and care for, you'd
think I'd have enough offcuts only to need two, but they always seem to:

o be different models or,
o disappear

when I think I can get away with it. Bah!

I use 3 x SRAM PC69 (as was, now there's a New! Improved! version,
apparently). Works for me, and is probably slightly easier to clean
using the Sheldon Shake.
