Replace my pedals- what to do

Keep the Shoes
Keep the Pedals
Invest in a pair of Kool Kovers (sp?).....little rubber dohickeys that
slip over the cleats and make walking less of a ballet experience (and
protect your cleats at the same time).

A well stocked LBS may have them\be able to get them, or try the online
sources (Colorado Cyclist, item KLXMXQ Price $9.99). You'll still walk
in that unique toes up gait that engenders curious stares from the
non-cycling crowd, but you'll be able to waddle with confidence and
pride!

I don't think "platform" is that big a deal if you have stiff soles (like
the Sidis do). You might be pleasantly surprised by a combination of Sidi
Dominator MTB shoes and Eggbeater stainless pedals. There are tradeoffs
to be sure, but there is a huge difference in walkability which IMO far
outweighs all of the other more subtle differences, as far as everyday use
is concerned.

Get a set of covers for the cleats.

Why not just leave a comfortable pair of shoes at work, and switch into
them?

I was a long time Look pedal user. This year I switched to SPD M520
dual-sided pedals and Shimano T092 shoes. The shoes are plenty stiff,
look like road shoes, and have a recess for the cleat. See:

How about leaving a pair of regular shoes at work? Just change when
you get there.
Take a look at the Shimano version of the Look pedals, if you stay
with a road pedal.

I _live_ in my SPD sandals. Haven't had anything else on my feet for
several weeks.

You could buy some mountain bike shoes and pedals for commuting and
walking. And just switch to the Look pedals and shoes for the weekend
rides. Changing pedals is quick and easy.

Get a pair of cheap cotton Tai-Chi shoes (about US$5) and slip them in
your jersey pocket. When you get to where you're going, take off your
cleated shoes and wear the Tai-Chi shoes. Keep a pair of dress shoes or
whatever you wear at work to use when you get to your desk/whatever.

When the "bolt" is steel and the "nut" is aluminum, and the threads are fine
pitch, presenting a risk of cross-threading, I would prefer not to do it a
lot of times. Also, because of the side-loading in the pedal threads, they
must ALWAYS be very tight. If you R & R pedals frequently, it might be
tempting to undertighten. This will cause the aluminum threads to wear and
stretch.

I've been commuting for many years with the same problem. Speedplay
FROGS with Shimano touring shoe solved it (the FROG cleats might be a
problem for your Sidi's but if your willing to change ti a MTB/touring
shoe Sidi make a great one). Some people love the free float of the
FROGS others hate it, so try before you buy. But I've been on the
Speedplay pedals since '94 and have no plans to switch.

Really? They sell them here in beautiful downtown Boondocks, Wisconsin.
I'm surprised we have them if they're scarce elsewhere.

Otherwise, maybe a pair of generic mesh "beach shoes" would do. They're a
little heavier and bulkier than the tai-chi shoes, but not by too much.
