  1. Hi. I’m going to be replacing my triple crankset to a double, I have a allez elite 05 with a FSA gossamer with a integrated BB , what kind of bottom bracket will I need? And is there any tools that I will need? from what I have read I will not need to get new derailleurs but is it worth it? If not then I could spend more on the cranks, What should I buy?

Why bother? And why did you buy a triple to start with?

  3. It doesn’t shift very fast, for going to work (I live on a over 15% hill) I want to get in to racing, and I don’t have the money for a race and work bike

I’m new to road bikes, would it be faster with a double?

  4. The weekly triple to double drill, we should just make this a sticky.

Micah, there are other posts out there you might want to search. Basically you'll need a new crankset and BB. A triple F/R shifter/derailleur will work fairly well, I'd keep them. What kind of crankset/BB? I'd go with whatever gives you the best bang for the buck on nashbar/coloradocyclist/supergo/performance/etc, you see good sales from time to time and individual tastes may vary. For the rundown on tools/proceedure you can go to www.parktool.com or use a maintenance book like Zinn, but you might also consider having a LBS do it if you don't have the tools.

But there's nothing wrong w/ a triple, pro's use 'em. It's a lot of money to spend because the grass is greener over the hill.

Not faster. No, probably slower if you really have a 15% grade...geesh, keep the triple!

  6. Maybe someone should start something similar to on-line dating. Those who want to convert from triple to double and vice versa would enter their equipment into the system and then best matches would be identified. The user could look at pictures of the best matches and send a message to those who they were interested in having a more in depth relationship with. If the two agreed to become a matched pair they could then remove and mail each other their parts. The triple rider would get the double's parts and the double the triple's parts. A match made in heaven with no new equipment to purchase, only time wrenching on the bike and cost of shipping the parts.

  7. hilarious David. Actually if all the parts were thrown into the same gene pool...out would come a single geared fixie. 😉
It really is comical...the forever longing for another configuration. As RC2 said...the grass is (ain't) greener. Most of swapping from triple to double is machismo which isn't too comforting when a racer with a triple comes roaring by.

With an integrated BB he doesn't need a new one, just the crank.

  9. As others have said...why spend the money, to "look faster" It sounds like your relativley new to the sport in such case keep the triple until you "got legs"
Those 39's and 42's can quickly humble the cannibal intentions at 15%

    🙄
