  1. The one I'm looking for required a baking bag, chuck roast, potatoes,
carrots, mushroom soup, and dry onion soup mix nothing more. (NO tomato
soup, no celery, no onions, no cute little button mushrooms argh!) I have
no clue as to the proportions or cooking time or temp. I've searched the
web and there are SO many variations. I'm hoping someone has this original
recipe. I've winged it a couple times and though it hasn't turned out bad
    it hasn't been wonderful either.

    Best Regards,
    Lynne

Would the recipe possibly be on the cooking bags or the box they come
    in?

    Just lose the carrots:

Pot Roast in Foil - Betty Crocker cookbook

    3 pound chuck roast

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
1 package onion soup mix (stir into 4 cups boiling water, reduce heat
    Cover, simmer 5 minutes)
    8 small potatoes
8 medium carrots, cut crosswise into halves
    2 tablespoons water

Place piece of foil (I get the heavy duty kind for this) 30x18 inches,
in ungreased pan (I use a rectangular Pyrex dish). Place beef in
pan. Pour the hot soup over the beef. Add vegetables, sprinkle with
water. Fold over foil and seal. Cook in 300 oven for 4 hours.

Heh, I just cut and pasted from when I posted the recipe a
dog's age ago ... now I have to go look it up ...

Okay, I see what I did ... the recipe doesn't say to make the
onion soup, just to mix it with the mushroom soup. I make
the soup, this way more juices to cook the vegetables. You
would have sprinkled the water over the vegetables.

Also, making the soup and pouring it hot over the meat
kinda cooks it on the outside. I make my own onion soup,
too, but that's getting away from what the poster wanted.

So, make the soup -or- don't make the soup and just mix
the two soups and spread it over the beef. Put a little water
    onto the vegetables.

    Sorry, Betty! nancy

It's an old recipe and I haven't seen it on there in years. I'm still
looking though. I think the cooking bag website had a recipe a few years
ago, but they had altered it.

    Could this be it?

    1 3 lb. chuck roast
1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1 envelope onion soup mix
    4 medium potatoes
    4 large carrots
    1/2 cup water

Place roast in middle of cooking bag. Arrange potatoes and carrots around
roast. Sprinkle onnion soup mix over all. Combine mushroom soup and water
and mix thoroughly. Pour mixture over all. Bake approximately 2 hours at
    325 degrees F.

Are you sure the ingredient amounts are right? I always thought it was

    2.78 pound chuck roast
    7/8ths can of mushroom soup
    9/16ths package of onion soup
    4 1/8th medium potatoes
    3 7/8ths carrots
    3/8ths cup of water

  10. I'd like to make a guess...

Ms. Peacock was killed in the kitchen with a lead pipe?

<cackle> No, no, Ms Peacock DID it in the kitchen with a lead pipe. She
whacked Mr Body for making inane recipe requests.

Onion soup is easy 🙂 If I can find some beef stock in my freezer I
    might make some tonight.

Oh, not on you! Believe me, it's nothing, I just use beef broth,
sliced onions, granulated garlic, onion powder for good measure ...
I just look up any old recipe and do like that. No recipe.

Can it possibly *not* be better than the dreaded envelope??
