  1. Hi,

I joined WW for the first time March 2003, I weighed 156.6. I stopped in June partly because summer
is hectic with the kids at home and vacations, and partly because I had lost 13 lbs and felt I could
keep going on my own. for awhile I did, and continued to lose an additional 6 lbs (down to 137!)

Gradually I stopped journaling and slowly slipped back to old habits. I re-joined on 11/8 and
weighed in at 144.8. I am really having a tough time with the flex point method...I don't know
why!!! I feel like I'm starving at 20 pts. I plowed through my 35 pt bank the first 2 days back on
    the program.

I'm trying to be kind to myself...it is difficult to get back into the full swing of things after a
6 mo. hiatus of eating whatever I wanted whenver I wanted it!

I guess I miss being able to eat 23 pts if I want, and banking extra if I want to. Psychologically,
I feel like I'm raiding the savings acct. when I "borrow" or take from the 35 points in the bank.

I will read the FAQ on how to properly sign off with my weight designations by my signature.

Thanks, all. (At least I'm drinking my water!)

  2. Welcome back, Ann! I want to wish you loads of good luck on the new plan. It's worked for some and
not others, so don't get discouraged too easily. Here's the newbie info in case you are interested.
    Again, welcome!

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of support, advice, and encouragement.
Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may
want to look for that later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ: didian.comasdww our welcome notice:

    Here's a short synopsis by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you lose weight those points
allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need less to operate). At 183 pounds and based
on the new US flexpoints system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition to this you are
allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on
a particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22 points ... weight reaches
150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended per day, 5 servings of
fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop calculator ...
    xmission.compoints.exe

WW suggests your ideal weight should be somewhere between 116 and 145 depending on your age.

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of points. Points do not carry over
from day to day. You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your discretion ... can divide
them up and use daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be
used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing for you to look into.
There is lots of information available, as well as the food point database and journaling system.

    Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight: 133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that most of the people who
participate are respectful, considerate folks who freely share their experience with and knowledge
of WW, weight loss, and maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the time, people like this are
just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience
as a suggestion to try if you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right to you, ask the
newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!

  3. Welcome back Ann. Maybe you should try and ease your way into the Flex points method. Start with the
old range routine that you used before you quit. Once you get yourself back on track for a few weeks
then try switching to the new Flex points method. It might just take you a few weeks to get back
into the swing of things so be patient. You did not gain the weight overnight so getting back OP may
take some time. Good luck and hang in there.

  4. Welcome back Ann. I'm not totally comfortable with the Flex Points program either, so I'm sort
of following the old Winning Points program still. Can't get used to having all those flexpoints
to deal with. Hope you have much success getting back OP and losing the weight you've gained.
    Good luck!

  5. Why don't you just go back to Winning Points. I am not doing Flex Points because I saw no need to
change what was working for me already.

  6. Hi, Ann!

    Welcome back!

I had the same problem. First, I used my own two-column tracking method for points; one column was
daily and one column was a running tally of the 35 flex points. That helped for awhile, but still
not completely. Then, I decided that I could not survive on 20 points a day,(that makes me binge!)
so I opted for 24 -- which I stick to pretty well with occasional slip-ups. I'm going with this for
now. My point is I found something that worked for me.

Experiment to find what works for YOU -- using whatever points tracking method/system you want. You
might find that you like to old way best.

Looking just at the points (for your weight) with the old method you had 161 points (max) per week
and in the new method you have 175 points (max) per week. I think that however you decide to divide
these points up daily, you'll lose weight.

Good Luck! I know you can do it, because you've done it before! 🙂

  9. Welcome aboard Ann! If you are unhappy with the flexpoint system, and prefer the old banking one ...
then use the old one! You gotta do what you gotta do, what you are comfortable with. Many of us here
made the switch to flexpoints, only to find it didn't work for us so switched back. Some are doing a
modified form (which I am), incorporating both programs into something that will work for us. Others
aren't doing ww at all, just using this forum for support and accountability.

I still bank activity points, but don't bank food points. I've never used all the flex points
though. If I feel like I've totally overdone on the eating one day, I step up my activity. So far it
is working well for me while on maintenance.

The trick is finding what works for each of us individually, then following that routine.
