I recently started riding my bike again after two years out of the saddle. In the meanwhile, I
gained a little weight - too much fat, but also more upper body muscle mass from my other sport. The
TTT stem I have now seems just a bit too flexy when I'm out of the saddle. Is there a nice, stiff
quill type stem still available (eveything seems to be threadless anymore). What about Salsa's?

I've used both and I don't agree. Salsa is the stiffest quill stem. But I
use the Frog (stiffness isn't everything). Either one would work fine!Quoted message said:

You might want to try the Cinelli Alter with quill adapter. Probably $40 on eBay.
Another one to look at is the Cinelli Integralter with quill adaper. Probably $70 on eBay.
These things are VERY beefy.

<snip>I weigh about 210, ride standing quite a bit on hills and sprinting and find that the Salsa Quill is
up to the task for me. I have never had occasion to think to myself, "Gee, this stem is too
flexible." That is not to discount your statement, which I cannot dispute, but to put it in
perspective based on my experience.App

I find the ITM Eclypse steel stem stiff enough, not too heavy and very cheap. Available in quill or
