Generally they're cheap and cheerful, machine built, not top quality, but
servicable for a bike that doesn't get too much 'hammer' .. 😉 If you get
the spokes re-tensioned correctly by hand they can become a decent set of
hard-wearing wheels, though they will always be a little heavy.

Wheels or rims?

They've long been making rims of various types and quality. The (old)
ones I've used have been, er, average to fine.

Yep

Cheap and cheerful - reasonably well built but do require tensioning
before use. Alloy on the rims seems to be of good quality but
probably slightly heavy for the hi-tech user. I have had no problems
with the hubs or axles used.

I buy them in lots of 20 pairs.

I have a Raleigh R100 road bike that uses Sora hubs and Rigida rims. I have
had no problems with the front wheel but in 250 - 300 miles the rear wheel
has snapped spokes twice and after a total rebuild with new spokes, promptly
unwond the nipples on around 80% of the spokes. Dificult to apportion blame
to the builder, the spokes or the rims - the jury is still out.

They are the favoured wheel of small LBS's and Action bikes etc. Have
had several pairs, they are Ok for a while then a spoke breaks and no
matter how many times you re-true them they always need new
spokes/truing. Mavics are hardly any more expensive and seem fairly
trouble free. You can get pair of Mavics on Sora for £60-70 if you
shop around.

To be honest I've already bought two pairs of these for two bikes.

The first pair have already arrived and I was so pleased with them I
bid on another set. The first pair seems true and the spokes are
tight. Much tighter than the original set on the bike. So far they
seem very strong and reasonably light. I'm only looking for basic
strong wheels not performance wheels. The main bike I'm currently
using is a basic steel frame model with oversized tubing but I hope to
use a Kona Lanai bike when I've lost a bit more weight. However the
Lanai I have has 32 spoke wheels that look if anything worse than the
wheels that came on the basic steel bike so I've bought a set of these
rigida wheels for that too.

My original intention was to get a Kona Smoke from my local dealer but
they couldn't get stock. In the end I bought a half price new Kona
Lanai from ebay (new as in not ridden but bought in Nov 2003) and
basic steel bike which is handling my weight well until I jammed it
into the pavement kerb at about 18mph and knocked the front wheel out
of true slightly. At about 24.25 stone (26 stone 3-4 weeks ago) I
don't trust my weight on the Lanai as its aluminium but its a
beautiful bike that I'm really looking forward to riding.
