Yes, these new-fangled aluminium frames do crack and fail, don't they? :-)

Seriously, if it's got decent parts, buy a new frame. On one will sell you
a scandium alloy hardtail for £220

Actually there's enough left that I'm pretty sure I wasn't in any
immediate danger. But discovering the crack made me nervous,
and tells me that replacement is in order.

Trouble is, the parts are something of a mix, ranging
from originals through cheapos to those replaced in the
past two years or so when I've been making enough not
to make "cheap" my criterion for choice. 'Twould be
a crime to abandon that beautiful chainset, but not
everything is up to its standard.

Don't look at me - I've just acquired a nice 531 frame with canti
bosses which just needs new rear dropouts and should make a nice
tourer or, at a pinch, a cyclocross bike for next season. Don't think
I can cope with another frame right now.
