I'm shocked and saddened to hear the news.

Sheldon was a legend - with easily the best cycling website ever, and one of
the
best websites ever, period! He will never be forgotten for as long as
the internet remains - which is bound to be forever!

Best wishes to his family at this most difficult time.

What a shocking, sad, sad day. Condolances to his family and
friends. I'm just a stranger who he helped with advice, and in such a
generous way. His polite and funny style will be an example to me, on
the net and off.

Will someone post details such as donations in lieu etc.?

And had a wonderful family and was apparently a mainstay of the local
musical theater and was a god of the bicycle community. He lived an
incredibly full life and made the world a better place, God bless him.

I'm a comparitive newbie to modern cycling and Sheldon's pages were helpful
beyond measure. He could have put all that information in a printed book,
yet he chose to share his vast knowledge for free. I'm glad I dropped him a
short email of thanks only recently.

I add my condolences to his wife, children and friends. I hope they can find
some comfort in the knowledge that Sheldon will be remembered by a vast
number of strangers too.

I have had nothing but fond feelings for Sheldon ever since I
discovered his website many years ago. I hope he was able to enjoy
peace, comfort, and clarity up to his last moment. I know he will be
missed greatly by myself and others.

Moreover, I hope that his very great gift to the world cycling
community can live on with the continuing maintenance of his site and
its contents. I think I only spoke to him on the telephone once
during the several years I have referred to him by name and among the
several purchases I made from Harris Cyclery-- yet I feel like he was
a personal friend of mine because of his copious contributions by way
of r.b.t and sheldonbrown.com.

I am assured that in bicycle heaven, everywhere you need to go is
downhill and just around the corner. I like to think of Sheldon
enjoying a riotous welcome there after his solo breakaway.

I was amazed at his other interests/pastimes too.

I was in his neighborhood one day last September and wanted to stop in,
but unfortunately I ran out of time. Now I really regret it. I always
wanted to meet him in person. Neat guy.

I'm sure he got more people on bikes over the last 15 years than anyone,
even Lance Armstrong. When I look around town and see all the college
kids on their fixed gear beaters, I know we have Sheldon to thank for it.

This is a loss of immense proportion. It is astounding how many lives
this man touched in these days of cyberspace and electronic community.

A fountain of knowledge, a sly and ironic sense of humor, and humble
to a fault for someone so well respected in the bicycle world - where
all too often opinions are like a-holes...

My condolences to family, friends and Harris Cyclery.

Certainly, this n.g. will NEVER be the same.

I am very sorry. Like everyone here I truly liked Sheldon even though
I never had the honor of meeting him in person. I feel that it was an
honor to have been able to converse with him through this group on a
few occasions. This group and the cycling world are better because of
him.

the technical comprehensible, a renaissance man with an astounding
range of interests. Sheldon's pages first interested me in the bikes I
now ride, and, though I didn't know him, his last e-mail on RBT was to
me, gently to make a point about an obscure branch of bicycling.
