i have some local people say rollers are beneficial to use when oudoor cycling is not possible. if this is true, can someone please explain. ive had a friend say they are dangerous (he is a [censored] though). do the risks outweigh the benefits?any suggestions?

There are no down sides(unless you fall off) with rollers🙂 I enjoy riding them - much more lively than a trainer.
There is plenty more information in other postings on rollers - lets not double up too much. -
It takes a couple of goes before you get the hang of balance, after that you are not going to fall off. For the first few goes, you just need a mate to steady you.

I've only had my front wheel come off a couple of times lately as I've been practicing riding without hands on the bars - stupid I know.
I'm pretty experienced at riding them 'normally'. -

I prefer rollers to a trainer but if you are looking to do any intervals or testing at intensities such that you go 'til you "fail" or may fail, then a trainer may be a safer option for such efforts. Other than that, rollers are great. There is a great variety available with vastly different resistance levels.
