RR METEC Point Score 11-Mar-04

Point Score O' Pain

3 sprint laps, 1 every 15mins

Ben Jackson (SKCC) was an A grader, all other
riders were in C and D grades.

-

Ross Hamilton immediately burst away from the
line, creating a 20 second gap before one lap
had been completed.
This is the move which caused so much pain...
thanks Ross! :p
Although the bunch didn't react immediately,
the pace steadily quickened, eventually turning
the chase pack into an evil, leg-pulverising
beast.

Ross did a fantastic job of staying off the front,
until a few laps down when the only A-grader in
the bunch, working with a special points handicap,
lept off the front of the pack (like we'd stopped!)
and took the first sprint win, Ross second with
Richard Reynolds out-sprinting hippy and the rest
of the bunch for 3rd place.

Obviously hippy wasn't the only one in a world
of pain at this stage, as the chase pack had
fragmented, leaving numerous riders behind. It
was now up to Rick, hippy and jazmo to share
the load and reel in the escapees.

The second sprint went to Ben who (I think) had
lapped the entire field by now as he caught our
chasing bunch.
I'm not 100% sure though, as my brain had
switch into Damage Control Mode and refused
to do anything except point the bike down the
road and move the legs up and down.

Ross was still out in front of the bunch and took
second, but his gap was being eroded as Rick
and the two aus.bicycle riders chased hard.
Rick scored another point with his sprint for 3rd.

With only a short amount of the 45 minutes
remaining, Rick, Jaz and hippy came up on the
dropped riders, and shortly after collected
Ross. About time!

The 3rd and final sprint would now decide the
race winner.

Before the final left-hand sweeper, Jaz zipped
off the front, but wasn't quite quick enough
with the rest of the chase pack following
closely.

Trying and failing to maintain the pace all the
way to the line, hippy conceeded early, leaving
Rick to take the sprint over Ross. This move
equalised Ross and Ben on 7 points and
ensured Rick was 3rd overall with 5 points.

Feeling nice and punished, blaming it all on the
running I was doing for the BRW tri, I limped
home with one thought ticking over...

"Next week.."

Your turn Jaz! :)

Nice report. It was a very painful yet paradoxically satisfying ride.

I think your report is more colourful than mine. Mine sounds more like a robot rattling off a series of occurrunces during the race.
