RR: Velbert

Hooray for silly German holidays! Whilst everyone round here was dressing up in fancy dress, I was out on the bike. The original plan had been to head to the Ardennes, but it's still under some snow. Instead, I headed to Velbert which is about 20km east of here and the limit of most of my rides. I wanted to do a bit of exploring round the area to try and find some nice riding to add a loop to my normal rides for a future 70 / 80km epic. I know there are some larger hills to the other side of Velbert so I wanted to try and link them in. I took La Conasse (with new, spiffy SS cranks: http://j-harris.net/bike/KonaSS/04.jpg) and headed out in to the hills. Sun was shining, but there was still some snow on the ground from the previous night's dusting: http://j-harris.net/bike/velbert/01.jpg The peak of the hill with the radio tower was my target: http://j-harris.net/bike/velbert/02.jpg which I eventually reached, after plenty of wrong turns and dead-end trails. One snow storm. Not enough decent trails. Still, pizza and a Rochefort when I got home and better than being in the office 🙂

Looks like a haul. How far does it turn out to be? (less the wrong turns, and dead ends of course 🙂

is it ever really enough. I rode for 2 1/2 hours yesterday, and still didn't satisfy the thirst. But
my new CB MULE quenched the real thirst very well!

nice, hope you're loving that SS experience, bill The mind serves properly as a window glass rather
than as a reflector, that is, the mind should give an immediate view instead of an interpretation of
the world.

Sounds good, should do more of the investigative riding myself, always too tempted to follow an mtb-
rag route.

Sounds good, should do more of the investigative riding myself, always too tempted to follow an
mtb-rag route.
Huh, I'm always too tempted to go back home and give my joints a rest ;-(

Actually, a lot of the time was spent out of the saddle, so I can sit without pain today.
