It has nothing to do with the prices retailers sell at...
it has everything to do with where the retailer is buying
the product..
Shimano is simply enforcing an agreement that has almost
always been in their OEM sales contract. Specifically that
someone who buys parts as a manufacturor to build them onto
a bike at the wholesale level, is forbidden to sell those
parts into the retail stream. Doing so costs the origional
manufacturor and its authorized distributors a lot of
money... When Shimano was trying to put Suntour out of the
market in the US OEM wholesale was between 25% and 60% lower
than Regular wholesale.
Shimano certainly has the right to refuse to sell to someone
who will not abide by the terms of their contract.
As far as Austrailia goes only those companies actually
making bikes in Australia would be affected since they are
the only ones who are entitled to OEM pricing.. and even
then they would only be affected if it could be shown that
they were passing OEM product into the retail stream.
None of that is price fixing...
