Actually, the runners aren't the problem. They jog steadily along the side of the road, they're
mostly wearing white shirts and/or numbers, they stay single file. Easy to avoid clipping them.
The problem is the @#$%& support vehicles and accompanying moronic crowds. These self-imposed Road
Police park their vans and SUV's anywhere they feel like it, sometimes sitting on or over the fog
line (endangering the runners who have to pass by them), and stand around in clots or amble across
the road oblivious to the fact that they're on a state highway where people are driving to and from
actual destinations.
I will make a note on the calendar to watch for the date of next year's run so I will be sure to
stay home that day. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Either a straying support person will be
hit or a roadblocking van will cause a rear-end collision to someone trailing in the line of 16
cars behind it as it trundles self-importantly along at half the speed limit, playing the role
of pace car.
Can't they just run down 1 where there is plenty of room, and it's cooler?
Jeannie couldn't even find any reference to this run on Google...I think it's from Palo Alto or San
Francisco to Santa Cruz, but not sure
