Due for the big V tomorrow. Anyone got insights on how soon I will be able to get back to
running again?

About three months when your surgical incision heals. Of course if you had the "pre-op" vasectomy
where they only rip off your nuts and leave your penis for later removal, then possibly sooner. BTW
I'd recommend recording your voice now, so you can remember what it used to sound like before you
started singing soprano.
Short answer - two to six weeks depending on age and conditioning and if no complications.
Long answer - google this newsgroup for at least two threads in last year.

Big V? I highly doubt it. I think this is called microsurgery.

It must vary even more. I have a running friend that had a 20+ year record going in and never
missed a day. The day after he iced the boys and went for his minimum mile run. This is on the
extreme side.

Well I had a vasectomy in the afternoon and played tennis that evening. Not very smart and I
suffered for it. I was back running within a week though, a little slower perhaps but running
none the less.
Just make sure you follow your Dr.'s post-op care suggestions EXACTLY. If he says ice and relax for
two days, do it, even if you feel good. Wear a jock strap for support for several days, and don't
wear tight jeans for at least a week, maybe longer, especially if you do alot of sitting or
walking. Basically, consider it as any other injury and don't try to rush back from it and suffer
another setback.

Any running for at least a week would be foolish. Even then be very cautious.

This reminds me of the old joke:
What's the definition of a real man?
Someone who jogs home from his own vasectomy.

I was so high on i.v. demerol I could almost have done it. I walked around the down town area for an
hour and a half trying to come down to earth enough to drive myself home. It was an experience I'll
never forget but I should have done it years earlier. Like that ad for some deodorant used to say,
"it takes the worry out of being close."

Certainly a good portion of the populace, runners especially, are better off not contributing to the
gene pool anyway.

I thought it was "Running FROM a vasectomy".
