Running in Georgia

Mike,

Georgia has a lot of great places to run, although if you visit in the summer, be ready for the
heat. Spring weather here is very changable, but for the most part refreshing.

Try this link to find a lot of variety in scenic places to enjoy a run. Personally a few I'd
recommend are the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park (16 miles of beautiful trails of varying
difficulties), the Silver Comet Trail and Vickery Creek. A run along the Chattahoochee River in the
Recreation Area is a more level run and also a great place to enjoy the scenery. The link below also
has link to places below the Atlanta area...Calloway Gardens is a nice place to visit as well.

Enjoy your escape from winter...we're back in the mid 70's this week and have been enjoying warm
temps for a few weeks now.

This is a strange request. Most people run AWAY from Georgia.......not the other way around. Remind
me to never let you plan my vacation.

If you like to move around, stop in Ringgold, GA and run through the civil war battle field (or as
we Southerners call it, the War of Northern Aggression). It is one of the top 5 most visited parks
in the US (mainly because it sits just off I-75 so Yankees stop on their way to FL).

Then go down to Rome and run at Berry College. You could spend several weeks running on the campus
with its trails.

Do you know if they allow runners on this Discovery Bicycle trail (10 miles) in Callaway Gardens? I
am visiting Atlanta this month and so am curious. Thanks, Satish

It snows and goes 10 below (C) in Atlanta on occasion. So be prepared for winter too.

That hardly is winter compared to far more northern latitudes (having lived in WI, IL and GA).
However, the winters in north Georgia were depressing: overcast, rainy, wet feeling, cold to the
bone. Yuck...

Georgia is a great running state. In addition to the other running suggestions, running alongside
the Chattahoochee River is popular. There are plenty of good races to run, so check them out on
active.com and/or www.atlantatrackclub.org when winter gets nearer. In the latter part of the year,
the Lightning 10K in Sandy Springs and the Buckhead Sizzler 10K are fun, fast races. In December,
there are also races in the Virgina Highlands area, if you don't mind a few hills.
