Hello,

I have a Sachs Huret Rival SDS 8/8 derailleur (dated 1986) with matching freewheel and Maillard Helicomatic SDS 8/8 hub. (A picture of the derailleur can be found here: VeloBase.com - View Component Detail)

They all have the SDS 8/8 designation and I was wondering what they where used for (Racing and/or MTB?) and if anyone knows what the acronym SDS stands for?

Regards,

Jos.

I stand to be corrected but I believe it stands for "shock dampening system".

Why don't you contact either nprenet or JFischer (unless you are the latter)?

I suspect the meaning is more akin to Shimano's SIS & STI acronyms -- Shimano Indexing System & System Total Integration (I generally think of the latter as Shimano Total Integration) ...

So, SDS probably stands for something as mundane as SACHS DERAILLEUR SYSTEM ... or, Systeme Derailleur Sachs.
