SBS - terrible timing!

Last night's coverage was [censored] poor, haven't they figured out that
attacks can be good to watch too?

At least they showed the last 50m in slow motion a bit later on.

Maybe SBS3 digital should be set up for decent coverage 🙂

They did the exact same thing a couple of years ago on the lsat stage, missing an intermediate sprint which decided the green jersey. Would have thought the drunken abusive phone calls from myself and some other derelicts would have made them think twice this year. But no.......

I kept hoping that the ad would finish just in time, no such luck!

It has been great having live coverage (even if I am starting to look visibly tired to others). One of the guys I worked with asked me if I was feeling alright this morning (was an 8am meeting, but still.)

Just seems that whatever we get we need them to step up to the plate further (which they have in some aspects - no pre live stage discussion for an hour with Hodgo and the soccer guy).

I hear ya. quite a few people i have bumped into are starting to realise the magnitude of our folly as there is still so far to go zzzzzzzzzz

It would be cool to think that this becomes a regular every year from now on (the coverage, not the lack of sleep zzzzzzzzz) and they'll learn alot from this year's effort

Around 90% of SBS funding comes from Government sources, SBS isn't that
free 🙂

An update - I got a response frmo SBS. I reproduce it below:

Dear Viewer,

During last night's broadcast of the Tour de France coverage some

crucial moments at the end of Stage 12, including the finishing sprints

of some of the contestants for the green jersey, were obscured by a

commercial break.

SBS's late night Tour de France coverage is a live broadcast. As the

course of the race is unpredictable and it has no natural breaks, the

appropriate placement of commercial breaks during the race relies on the

skills of the operators making a call on where they will cause least

disruption.

Unfortunately on this occasion it is clear those skills failed. SBS

apologises unreservedly and will make every effort to ensure that such a

mishap does not happen again.

In 2004 SBS cost us taxpayers $145 million so we expect excellent
TdF coverage

Besides the terrible timing of ads we also have to contend with the diffrences in whats shown. If you notice the telecast starts at the same time in Adelaide as the eastern states, which means 30min less is shown. 😠

At least I miss the cooking time waste at the start 😄

and you miss the John Cardwell commentary I assume - anyone know the story behind him? Great effort from him the other night, as Lance was going for a slash his commentary was that "Discovery were obviously making sure that other teams shared then load.... "

heh, to be fair, Cardwell's done a little bit of homework.
At first he had absolutely no idea, but at least now
he's up with the jargon a bit and a bit enthusiastic
about the race. I wouldn't replace P&P with him, but
he's getting better.

My missus and I were talking about him last night, and how hard it would
be to do interesting commentary on your own no matter who you are. I
have heard Phil L do some on his own but even he gets pretty boring
without anyone to bounce off.

Oh and I have to share my proudest moment from the TdF. Saturday I went
to bed early, and when my wife came to bed she ( who has never watched
the TdF) gave me a summary of everything that had happened in that
stage. I think that's due to the live stages because you can see all the
tactics through a whole stage, which makes it all a lot more interesting.
