I already have the 50cm cable version which I run from a bottle dynamo.
Is it possible to change the cable for a longer one, or will I need to
make a suitable joint and add more cable to the existing one?

Thanks Andreas. The local chain of motor accessory shops (Halfrauds, as
they're often called here) does sell them in the right size.

Yes. I cut the cable and soldered in an extension. I've wrapped
the joins in insulating tape. Not had any problems so far.

You may prefer to use heatshrink. I've also put in some crimp
connectors as well so it can be broken in two, so the handlebars
can be removed for instance without having to remove all the cable
ties holding the cable in place down the fork.

I must admit - having failed to find the right size before, from places
such as Maplin - to not having thought of a car place. So they do have
a use after all!

(I do have a car, actually, though it's often mistaken for a roller
skate!).
