Scott Speedster S30?

I'm 6 feet tall and I have short legs and arms for my hieght. Really, I'm not far from your height. I ride a 58 cm Scott Speedster with a 100 mm stem instead of the stock 130 mm one. I MAY be able to ride a 56, but definitely not a 54. That would get the handlebars way too low, I think. On the other hand, if he will that the time to set it up correctly for you, then I'm sure he knows what he's talking about!

And I don't think it has "true" full 105 group. Brakes are Scott brakes (I think these are basically Tiagra brakes with another label) and a Truvative bottom bracket and crank.

I upgraded my wheels from Alex rims to Shimano R550. The biggest difference is really the look. (which is now way cooler :p) The Alex wheels has a million spokes to compensate for being cheap which adds alot of rigidity and stability.

I think that Scott bike look stunning and I really love the the geometry and I have very comfortable rides on my bike.

Thanks for your comments Strid, though I'm now confused about what size frame I need - as you say, I'm sure the guy in the bike shop will measure me properly - I hope! You are right about the brakes, I did notice they had Scott stamped on them rather than 105, even if they are Tiagras they have got to be better than the no-names on my Giant.

And you're also right, the grey and black colour scheme looks really "sexy"! 😄

PearlJamFan...don't let the bike shop sales guy sucker you into a bike that you don't feel comfortable on. Bump up to a 56cm. You have to ride the bike, not him. So get want feels good to you. 🙄

Thanks carbonguru, the shop had all sizes of the Scott in stock so I'm pretty sure they weren't just trying to get rid of old stock. I'm definetly goung to ride a 54 again and a 56 before I part with any cash. Thanks again.

I recently purchased Scott Speedster S30 up in Auckland and am about 177cm tall... and I have got size S frame (52cm)... the bike I used to ride was Specialized Sirrus and it was 54cm however the bike fit technician from the shop recommended that I go with 52cm as its much better fit... I have tried both 54 and 52.. and find 52 to be just right.... found 54 to be a bit uncomfortable.. but get the technicians to get the right fit for you.

As for the bike, I am loving it! its a great bike for its price.... i got mine for around 1600... although got the crank switched from 105 to the cheaper truvativ ones... but i did it to get the price down.. other than that its just the same bike as the one that you are looking at....

Thanks scho047 - I always thought a 52" would be too small but I'll certainly give it a look. $1600 seems a very good price, the shop here in Napier has it priced at $2200 but will let me have it for $1900. I may even have a look at the S20 as I think that is full 105 i.e including brakes

I'm coming to Auckland next month, what's the best bike shop in town? (I know "best" covers a lot of ground but anywhere you'd recommend?)

well 1900 with 105 crank is not a bad price at all... i got mine down to 1600 as i got the truvitus crank..the ones that are on 2007 model... but i am not too sure as a beginner you notice all that anyways... well thats how i see it...
S20 do look much nicer with everything being 105..but comes with more expansive price tag of course..

as for the shops in auckland... ive bought bikes from two places... my first on from avanti plus on mt eden... where i found the service is not as good..well in my opinion that is...as they did not do a proper bike fit.. and i got the impression that they were there to only sell bikes...
whereas the second shop where i boght s30 from is multisportbike in takapuna... found they are real friendly bunch and wont sell you the bike unless it fits you.... and their knowledge and services so far has been great...

Thanks for the advice scho, I too have bought a bike (Specialized Hard Rock) from an Avanti Plus store and have to say they were very keen just to get me on any bike as long as I paid the money - very little fitting etc. However a new Avanti Plus has opened in Hastings and they seem very good, they are getting a video fitting system where they take about an hour to measure your body length, arms, legs etc to get the perfect fit - the guy is going away for training on it next week so when he gets back I'll go down and get measured up.

I'll try and get to multisportbike when I'm next up in Auckland.

I'm loving my new Scott (CR1 Team), obviously it's a little different to the S30 but I checked out the S range and would have happily got one. In fact, I originally decided on a 2006 S20 but they didn't have one left in my size (at the shop or from the distributor). Then it became a show down between a 2007 S10 and the 2006 CR1 Team. Discount on the 06 CR1 was so great it was the same price as the 07 S10. I swapped the Mavic Ksyrium wheels for custom wheels (Mavic Open Pro rims, 105 hubs and heaps of DT spokes) which saved a few hundred bucks. 105 group set is great bang for buck (see multiple other threads in this folder).

Hey dave 80, just checked out the Scott CR1 Team which looks a great bike, carbon frame and full 105, I didn't see one in the bike store but will go back and have a look at the weekend. Doubt if I'll get it for $2000 though! 🙄

I'll take Scho047s advice and have a decent look around Auckland bike shops when I'm up there - where I live only has two or three bike stores but they're all pretty goos though stock is limited.
