How about doing a Google search for Scottish Walks FIRST and then come here to ask PERTINENT
questions about those walks that are listed

With the other thread it seems to be that time of the season yet again.

BJ, the responses you've had are probably not quite what you were expecting. Sorry about that, but
it's really your lecturer's fault for not teaching you properly. Please print this message out and
give it to him/her.

You'll do far better if you post something on a topic that really interests you, instead of just
picking one out of the course materials. Of course, you'll also need to find a group that's
appropriate for whatever topic you choose. That way, you can take part in a proper discussion with
like minded people, which is what newsgroups are all about, and you'll get infinitely more benefit

If in fact you really are interested in walking, then you'd be welcome here. But please don't just
ask a vague question about "Scottish walks". And don't try to fake it (if you do you'll get found

last walk you did, or ask our opinions about a particular problem you've experienced in real life
while out walking. Be prepared to respond again with follow-up comments and questions if you get
good replies (or even if it's only to say thank you). Read a couple of weeks worth of posts by other
people first, to get the hang of things.

On the other hand, if you're not interested in walking, then what are you interested in? Music?
Sport? Hobbies? There are newsgroups on every subject under the sun. Go look for some that suit you.
Again, read the posts for a week or two to get a feel for the group before posting yourself.

As for your lecturer, he/she is perhaps not aware of the number of complaints from other newsgroup
users that the course you are following has generated. The reason for the complaints is that we've
had many hundreds of students asking exactly the same inane questions out of the course materials,
over and over again, for a period of several years. It's VERY annoying.

Please ask your lecturer why he/she is not observing the latest guidance from the Scottish
Qualifications Authority. A few months ago, in response to complaints, the SQA official responsible
for this course said:

newsgroups on walking in the assessment materials, could lead to some problems. You will be pleased
to know that we are currently reviewing the course and assessment in question, taking effect in the
academic session 2004/5. To avoid any further difficulties in the meantime, I intend advising
centres of the possible pitfalls that this assessment may bring and that a more open approach to the
topic would be acceptable. <end quote>

Looks like Glasgow but the IP addresses are unresolvable for some odd reason which isn't what youd
expect from a FE college.
