  1. So, in the past, I have been rather enamored with my Cateye OS 1.0 computer. It does lots of very cool things. The problem is that it does it with a wire. I am now training on a trainer instead of rollers, which means no front wheel action, which means no tracking my performance. The sensor isn't long enough to go to the back wheel, and I'd rather not splice in wire and run it that far.

So, I need a nice wireless computer that can transmit from the rear wheel. I really like the Protegé 9.0 Wireless (ecom1.planetbike.com8003.html), but after talking to their customer service, it seems it doesn't have the range for use on the rear wheel.

  2. Cannot help help you re: the rear wheel issue. I use a Polar CS200CAD and am happy.

The search function has been re-instated, if you search the equipment forum (this one!) I am sure you will find ample information on what you are looking for.

Vetta has a wireless computer for speed and cadence. VL110 T2X $180 from Vetta, Probably cheaper if you shop around.

Not sure why you're opposed to splicing in an extra length of light gauge zip cord, it's easy and works fine. Soldering isn't even required for indoor trainer use. I've also purchased a rear-wheel kit for a wired computer; believe it was an older Avocet brand. Not sure if these are offered anymore.

Wireless computers mean another battery, extra complication and potential issues with inference and loss of signal. Buying another high-end computer just to use your bike on an indoor trainer isn't the way I'd care to spend my money, but your toy budget may be bigger than mine 🙂

I picked up a rear sensor for a Sigma Sport computer I have. It had about 5' of cable. Nice feature, but I actually only care about cadence and HR when I'm on the trainer.

Cateye has harnesses for other computers that are long enough for rear wheel sensors..go see a cateye dealer and ask.

  7. Thanks for the information everyone. I'll start looking into the suggestions and see what I can dig up.
