Sadly, I think your logic is a little flawed; the WC depended on
Nicole's legs, whereas the SPotY award depends on the hearts and minds
of the "common herd" that make up the bulk of BBC TV viewers. Nicole's
fourth (securing the WC) today has barely made the BBC sports news, so
they're unlikely to know much about it.

I'd love to be wrong - and I'll be voting for her, obviously - but I'd
kiss your £20 goodbye if I were you! ;o)

She won welsh sports personality of the year a few years back, and was
a runner up in the final that year so it is not such a long shot.

Though Zara Phillips will quite possibly get it..

I rather think so. However, you may have difficulty arguing with the
chap who used the phrase "common herd" in this sort of context (not a
cycling champion, I have to admit), since he's been dead for nearly 400
