This is probably a realy obvious question but since the last time I replaced a bottom bracket things seem to have changed down there! I have a 105 Chainset and cranks on my bike so I assume the bottom bracket it similar or the same. Anyhow after removing the large Alan bolts I find the axels seem to be hollow and there is nowhere for my Park crank tool to push against to take the cranks off. I can see through the axel into the bottom bracket. Can someone advise me on the tool to use / procedure on replacing this bottom bracket.

Strickly speaking you should be able to pull the cranks off,but on MTB's they get stuck prettytight.This is how i solved my problem. You screw in a treaded screw the same tread size as the funny plastic allen thingy you removed.This will cloose te hole ,from the other side insert a round bar and tap it off.

Three choices:
Park makes a different tool for pulling your cranks. It looks exactly the same as the crank puller that you have except that it has a black handle and a larger end on the spindle to push against the hollow BB.
Shimano sells a little hat shaped insert that can be used with your current tool. It costs significantly less than a who new crank puller.
The work-around is to find something, like an ordinary nut, that's the right diameter to fit inside the crankarm but into the BB spindle for your crank remover to push against.
It sounds like howierart has 10 speed cranks and BB so I like the suggestions I read.

THanks everyone, the guy in the shop knew what to do..he gave me a little plug screw that goes in for resistance for my Park Wrench... I know now for ever and ever!!!
