Shipping a frame/fork

have you tried Pack&Send, they say they'll ship anything.

i haven't done a frame with them, but some other bulky items and they were imo a little cheaper than auspost. ymmv.

I wanted to ship a bike to Albany, it was cheaper to catch the bus and take the bike as luggage. 🙄

Frame is going to Sydney from Canberra.

Its definitely cheaper for me to drive the frame down to Sydney except that I dont have the time to do it.

Greyhound Freight (formerly Busfreight) will do a bike box for $65 depot-to-depot, or $97 door-to-door. I think this is their standard Australia-wide rate, although it may be cheaper for Can-Syd. I recently shipped a whole bike to Melbourne from Sydney, total cost was the asking rate of $97, plus a bit of time and effort.

If its in a smaller frame box, give them the dimensions and see if they can get you a better deal on cubic weight for that distance.

Thanks Nerdag, $97 seems doable. The frame/fork came in a box sized 75cmX85cmX37cm. Thats a huge box, but it will be the box I will send as its the original packaging, to minimize any more frustration.

It has become apparent to me that the seller knowingly sent the fork, and deemed it adequate for my use. The more I think about it the more upset I am. I missed out on a nice 531 frame because of this. And it was very cheap as well.

That does really bite. Dodgy sellers really make it bad for you, and also for everybody else who is trying to do the right thing. Sorry to hear about the fork issue and loss of the potential 531 frame =(

If you do get time, perhaps you could consider getting a frame box from a LBS somewhere in the capital. I'm sure there are an abundance of them, and it *may* work out slightly cheaper for you.

I guess though, if you didn't have time to drive it back, doing the above wouldn't be too far off time-wise.

As much as I would like to do that, I just want it all to end. Unfortunately Greyhound freight is not open till 2nd Jan, and I got 7th Jan as a dateline.

Although I must admit I am sad to see the frame go. Its a Colnago Master X lite. Something I have wanted for a while now.

I am the recipient of the bike that Nerdag shipped from Sydney to Melbourne. It was picked up from his house on the Thurs. before Xmas & I received a telephone call on Sat morning informing me that it had arrived at the depot in Brunswick. I chose to drive up and collect it instead of waiting until Wed to have it delivered. All in all it was a very easy process. By the way, thanks, Nerdag for packing the bike so well!!

No wukkas, nrb. It was the least that I could do! That sort of bike deserved to be well packaged - hope you didn't mind the heavy use of pre-loved bubblewrap!

I am having second thoughts about returning the bike now ... the Colnago is just asking me to ride it.

gday, done massives ammounts of trading online between queensland and the rest of the coutnry including 5 sets of wheels and 2 bieks from WA and have found three ways - Australain air express 85$ airport to airport (ie u have to deliver to their pick up centre (where i live thats a travel agency in the centre of town) and pick up from their sorting depot (once again where i am the aus post parcel cen.) 2: Busfreight prices vary and pretty good but then tend to manhandle ur stuff, kinda like sydney airport baggage handlers of a few yrs back and 3 Auspost sure they say they wont take it box it and take it in and ull find they will and if u wana save many make the parcel and irregular shape so they cant cube it cos when cubed its way expensive when just weight its pretty good - if they refuse just try another post office they do take them despite what the 13 call centre ppl say 🙂 all forms work i have send 2 sets of corrimas and 2 sets of zipps plus other carbon heels, cervelo frames, medira and giant bikes and never had a problem using all three methods
