Despite the press reporting the "hunger knock" the real reason is he didn’t conserve any energy and was constantly caught napping by Chavanel and Sanchez. His final mistake was yesterday to attack 40km out. What was all that about ? Wouldn’t it be better to put several hard attacks in on the last climb to break Sanchez..? Given them 40km to chase with a 10km downhill finish it was never going to work.
It really was poor riding bar the TT where the EPO did the work. I really wish the cycling press would report these poor tactics and not that fact that he was unlucky with a “hunger knock”. Shocking. What are they saying DPF ?

Tactically, Contador did seem to make a mistake on Saturdays stage.
I reckon it was hunger knock too, though.
I think he made many mistakes. Like missing the break by Rabo and Chavanel on stage 3 and then putting 30 seconds into Chavanel for no good reason and then attacking 8km out the day before he blew up. He was either chasing or attacking and never resting in the peleton. Not smart riding to win a stage race.
