i dont mind buying a couple of pairs and sending them back if they dont fit, or going off
somewhere and trying a few pairs but most places ive seen only have a very limited range or dont
stock wide fitting shoes so mail order will probably be the only way! (im based in
birmingham/cannock areas mostly)

im assuming here that the distance selling rules apply to shoes bought mail order as you would
also try them on in the store so no difference? so might be worth ordering two sets of shoes in 2
different sizes and sending 3 of em back if sucessful?

www.sportsshoes.com have always had good CS IME. Sizes sell out fast but they do offer wide
fittings. Look at Sweatshop Online too they often have sales. As to type/brand I can't comment.

Yes, and accordingly make a big difference even if don't use them with SPuDs or similar clipless
systems or even straps.

There's no substitute for trying shoes on in person, everyone's feet are different, so go somewhere
with some choices. If you try a few local bike shops you should accumulate a bit or trial breadth. I
have fairly wide feet and personally get on pretty well with Specialized Rockhoppers, though a
previous pair of Cannondales fitted my okay too. I've found Shimano's stuff to be a bit on the
narrow side for me.

Usual game with mail order outdoor footwear is once you wear them outside or apply anything like
waterproofing they're yours. But shape is important as well as size. Trying them on in person with a
selection of alternatives really is the best way to do it.

Come up the A38 and visit Mercian in Derby; they have a whole room upstairs with cycling shoes of
all descriptions in; or did last year, when I brought my Shimano shoes in there - size 10, and wide
enough to get my flippers in!

My MO36s (I think) are size 11 rather than the size ten I usually wear. However, as the shoes are
designed for things other than cycling, I don't mind their being slight long-in-the-toe. They fasten
tight enough for my general trundling style of riding.

Normally I would agree too. However, my MO36's seem fine -- in fact they are one of the most
comfortable shoes I currently possess.

Another style of Shimanos (style unknown) are the Work of Stan. Small, too tight, painful, back of
cupboard fodder.

im off to florida at the end of next week, sounds so close ... ive been referring to it as end of
august for soooo long now that end of next week sounds great - so i might wait and buy from there,
bound to be plenty of sporting goods stores in the orlando area and it'll give me a good excuse to
go shopping for something 'i' want !

They carry a wide range of shoes but for the most part the site isn't well organised. I commented on
their CS, not their website.

There are, and though when I was there (used to go out with one of the natives) I was never shopping
specifically for cycling kit I'd be surprised if you couldn't find somewhere that did a selection.

Useful point for Being A Touroid around Orlando is that that bit of FL lies across a whole series of
freshwater springs which tend to have state parks around them. Not far at all to get to them, try
Blue Spring, for example, and they're far nicer places than any of the theme parks and are
relatively sparsely attended.

If you want cheap shoes try some of the US online shops and have them delivered to your hotel - just
have them addressed to <your name> , <guest arriving on date> <hotel name & address>. You'll
generally pay a lot less and mail order avoids state sales tax as well. Try Supergo (my favourite),
Nashbar, Colorado Cyclist, Performance, Jenson etc. Don't linger too long on their sites though or
you'll suddenly find you've spent all your holiday money and more! Depending where you are going in
Florida there are often not many good bike shops to chose from and they tend to have limited stock
IME.

I take wide shoes. As others have said, Specialized are OK, Shimano narrow and I would add Northwave
which are my favourites for width fit, comfort and quality. You can often get their casual shoes
fairly cheap in the sales.

thanks for the pointers ... but a hotel 😉 nah, a nice four bedroom deluxe house with a pool, air
con and the works and a big gas guzzling car for the 2 weeks too and if it isnt a big gas guzzling
monster i'll just have to upgrade it !, there'll be no effort involved in this holiday apart from
effort to find lots of ways to relax, which is what this holiday for me is all about .... with the
last year that ive had i really need it too!

skiing or cycling holidays are on my list of choices over the next few years ... with the GF not
being the sporty type i somehow think i'll be doing these ones alone or finding a group to go with!

pulled quite tight they can be used by folk with smaller feet reasonably too: gf has used mine on
the 'bent to take advantage of the ATACs even though she's a good UK size smaller than me.)

Woundrous things, I have a spare pair in the cupboard in case they get discontinued and my usual
pair wear out.

If you want to stick to trainers rather than cycling shoes, I believe New Balance come in wide
fittings which might suit you. They are pretty widely available, including Sportsshoes which was
mentioned earlier. Ooops, just noticed the unintentional pun 🙂

I didn't say they weren't comfortable; they are. I have fairly wide feet so had to go for one size
too large to avoid the laterally crushed toe syndrome.

My MO36s are certainly the most comfortable pair of cycling shoes I posess, too. Come to think of
it, they're also the most uncomfortable pair I own, as well. OK, they're the only pair.

That's interesting, I'm a 42 but I bought 43/44 because when I tried 41/42 on they felt too short. I
have since decided (without another trial fitting) that I was just wearing them wrongly and I should
have bought the smaller size. However if what you say about them being too narrow is true maybe I
did get the right size.

I was thinking about buying a new pair I'd certainly be happy with an identical pair to what I have
now (the 43/44) it was just that I was in two minds if my natural size (41/42) would be even better.
I guess I better go to a shop and try them on again.
