buy some gear.
We'll be using buses, so are limited for distance. Are there any good
mountaineering shops in or near Windermere/Ambleside?
You may as well ask is there grass on my lawn! :-)
Dangleirons, mainly, on mine.

Oh yes, you'll be able to get all of those. Just watch out for all the
other stuff that jumps out shouting "BUY ME! BUY ME!" Ambleside can be
expensive. :-( Oh, and watch out for the Serious Walkers. :-)
I need to try on everything as very few things will fit me properly,
especially footwear.
As for buying 'noisy' items - no way!
I used to be a 'serious walker' in the true sense, not like the modern
type.
Actually, in the '70s, saw a chap in a car park near Ingleborough; he had
'all the gear' and was immaculate. *h later, when we got back from a
sweaty, somewhat muddy walk, he was there again, with not a mark on
anything. Still, he looked serious.
