Short term Shimagnolo setup

Shimano 9 speed cassette has spacing of 4.34mm

Campy 10 speed spacing is 4.12mm

So the Campy brifters are going to move the Campy RD 4.12mm for every gear change when for a Shimano cassette it needs to move 4.34mm.

Not only does the combination of Campagnolo shifters with Shimano derailleurs work, it works very well ...

• 'I' contend that Campagnolo shifters mated to Shimano derailleurs work better than an all-Shimano drivetrain (despite the protestations of some Shimanophiles who apparently feel a need to defend their purchase and/or choice)
  
• AND, the mis-matched combination works as good-if-not-better than an all pre-11-speed Campagnolo drivetrain (yes, that would probably make me an infidel to the Campy aficionados)

The truth of the matter is that YOU have apparently chosen NOT to stare at Chris Juden's matrix until it made sense to you as I had previously suggested you should do:

YOU will note that if you look at COLUMN E ("hubbub pitch"😉 ROW 9 ("Campag 10"😉 that the value in the matrix is 4.34mm ... now, that's really close to Juden's value of 4.35mm for Shimano's 9-speed indexing AND without knowing what the value is beyond two decimal places it is certainly THE SAME as Sheldon Brown's measurement of 4.34mm for a 9-speed Shimano Cassette's spacing ...

So, we are looking at a difference of either 0.00mm or 0.01mm ... or, something-in-between!?!

FYI. Of course, it is a great tragedy that Sheldon Brown died unexpectedly for more reasons than his inability to update the contents of his many pages of information.

Yes, and no.

THAT was true when he wrote it, but 'I' long ago had the hunch that Shimano's 10-speed Road rear derailleur had the same net geometry as a hubbub'd 9-speed Shimano rear derailleur.

I tested my notion, and it is the case ... at least, IMO.

Consequently, my hubbub'd 8-and-9-speed XTR rear derailleurs were replaced with 10-speed Shimano Road rear deralleurs -- the change in derailleurs was as much for cosmetic reasons as for the convenience of not needing to hubbub the rear derailleur cable ...

Of course, if I had been just a little more astute then I might have anticipated that the 11-speed Campagnolo shifters might yield 9-speed Shimano indexing when mated to a 9-speed Shimano rear derailleur without needing to hubbub the rear derailleur cable.

I suppose that the 11-speed Campagnolo shifters will be a future consideration for me in the future, but probably not this season.

Note to self: Never...EVAR!...argue with Alf regarding the Campagnolo/shimaNO matrix!

Not that I would ever desecrate Campagnolo components in said manner.
