Calm down.... Armstrong has already stated to the media and to the Italian judiciary that he made a mistake in chasing Simeoni down in the 2004 Tour... he has also said that this probably incited the alleged lies that Simeoni told .... (remember the case was dropped as it was a ‘his word against mine case’, impossible to prove either way. The case being dropped did not prove the guilt or innocence of either party.)........so IF (and its a big IF) Armstrong wanted to ride the Giro he should of thought twice about being such a hot head and chasing down another cyclist over a personal issue who was 2 hours down on GC..... simple.
Just remember Simeoni never said that Armstrong was using PED’s he only stated that Ferrari tried to administer to himself. Armstrong used (uses) the same coach and disagreed (Simeoni was proven to be correct by an Italian court of law later on)… Armstrong (the accuser) called Simeoni a lair… (Armstrong throws first punch)… Simeoni says he’s telling the truth and sues Armstrong for calling him a lair when he knows that Ferrari did provide him PED’s….. so there is an active case on the go… Armstrong chased Simeoni down and has words… thus intimidation of witness….. regardless of what was said he acted out of the confines of the race to speak one on one with a witness without the opportunity for legal representation to be present.
I don’t know about you guys but what has Simeoni done wrong here ? He just stated that his coach gave him PED’s. Another man disagrees. He never stopped Armstrong going to the Giro… Armstrong stopped himself by trying to protect a now convicted drug peddler.
I rest my case.
Armstrong may not have used PED’s but his coach has been found guilty of administering them.
So when you say ‘Lance is hassled by more legal expenses’ then why was he did chase Simenoi down and allegedly say: ‘You were wrong to testify against Michele Ferrari; you were wrong to sue me [for defamation of character]. I have lots of money and lots of time and I will destroy you. I’ll make you give up racing’ ... food for thought.
hombredesubaru said:So after all this tough talk from the Italian judiciary, and Simeoni etc, what happens. Exactly nothing.
And who gains from this?
Lance is hassled with more legal expenses.
He thinks seriously about then HAS to miss the Giro, although it could be argued that he got out just in time and will be happy with that-especially how late he put off his training this year.
But what IF he hadnt chased Simeoni down...he might have done the Giro and then come back to the Tour next year and boy that would have been really close, arguably he would have lost, we'll see.
But what an annoying jerk Simeoni is to try to go the witness intimidation route, same for the Italians who at least backed out before subpoenaing Lance and the rest of the peloton--I mean really.
