Velo News is doing pretty good lately in ref. to getting timely news and relevant interview on the web.

Pedro was the real mad man on the descent (I like Il Falco but.... Delgado was more like a plane crash, or cruise missile.... the way he came down...). He was one of my heroes and yeah I know.. he was a doper as well.. (part of the PDM squad, yes a Dutch squad and yes with systematic doping..yes I am Dutch, no I never doped - except for the Riesling😄 )

Yes surely. He implicitly condones blood doping and peds. And on the other hand claims its not true that riders need to take drugs because cycling is so hard

Although he sounds quite a thoughful person, he obviously hasnt worked things out yet.

I don't think Delgado was suggesting that the riders use EPO and blood transfusions between stages. The paranoia in cycling concerning anything medical has gone too far.

I loved the way he described the tactics used today. It was right on. No one attacks anymore except where it is expected..... Indurain and Armstrong actually won the TDF before the race began.......Everyone was indimidated by them. When Vino attacked in the TDF, JU did not have a clue what to do.
This could be attributed to race radios though. A rider does not attack when he feels good, just when the DS wants him too. I say get rid of the race radios..... We would see some quality racing and maybe get our mind off doping for awhile.

The best race I have ever seen in person was a race wherre Chris Horner"snuck" off the front. The race was an important one for LA to place in the top 5 to win a award of some type for a series of races. This particular race LA was wearing his World's jersey for the first time after winning it the week before..... also in th ehunt for victory was davis Phinney, Kiefal, and a few other "who's who" in american cycling. It was raining fairly hard and late in the 110 {?} mile circut race when Chris Horner in a small break slipped up ahead and sorta hid among the pace cars..... There were some corners and things that allowed him to gain a sizable gap over the LA led group.......
By the time the chase group discovered he was gone, it was too late......
I was sitting near Liggett who was calling the race. We watched it on those TV screens and the TV crews did not even realize Horner had slipped away.......Horner's situation had made the radios impotent.
I was a fan of Horners ever since...... and realized how silly race radios are...

Not having race radios will encourage riders to attack on downhills,,,,,, Will not allow TTer's put in minimum effort in the TT's to just win..... The riders in 2nd thru 10th place will have to race......

I agree with you all on the race radios too. this is a Guardian article during the tour de france, in which they got Marc Madiot (against rider radios) and John Lelangue (for rider radios) to argue their points. http://sport.guardian.co.uk/tourdefrance2006/story/0,,1818177,00.html Interesting reading.

Strongly agree regarding getting rid of race radios! Would make things SO much more interetsing.

Many of the people who I know, and who follow the sport, want to see radios banned.
I have agreed with this ever since race radios were introduced.

OMG....We all agree on something!!!!!

I´m not completely against radios.
I think that maybee the thing that should be controlled is the way the DS have access to the information.
I think that the riders iniciative would be protected if the information came to DS via his cyclists.
A breakway develops. The team riders would have to know who break through them tell the DS who was on the breakway.the other option to get information would be radio-tour. NO TV´s or internet or phone cells.
I believe in this... i would think this will be the best solution. But of course something has to change, if not like this then get rid of the radios.

Another thing: the heart beat thing. the DS knows how his man is doing, cut that. there should be his opinion with all the defects human opinion has.

making a link to the "hacker" armstrong it is possible nowadays for a DS to know how every rider is doing. Just data to acess.

For that i say: the information DS have must be reduced.
If we make that comparison of sports with warfare we know the general gets the information from the troops not by a non-intervinient part ( TV´S, etc) so for me it is clear the information should be delivered by the cyclist and if they are unable to do this only radio-tour should be a source to the DS.

Although, i have to say that this information it is the thing that make possible for you to play pro-cycling manager🙂

Seriously, put the race back in the riders' hands. With the doping and the radios, it's too robotic.
