Crystal said:1-1/2 years ago I went on Atkins for the first time. Within 4 months I lost
30 pounds with hardly any effort, not even any exercise. I have maintained
that loss doing low carb or low fat.
Now I want to lose more weight. I restarted Atkins following it to a T just
like I did 1-1/2 years ago. I cannot lose a single ounce. I've checked and
I'm not overdoing it on fatty food, I'm eating lots of allowed veggies and
lean meats, fish, etc. Drinking the suggested amount of water. I even added
some exercise though only walking daily. Still can't lose an ounce.
Prior to this I did a low fat and watching calories diet, with the walking,
on that I couldn't lose anything either. I'm so frustrated and at a loss to
what I should try! help!
Hello Crystal,
I have read all 114 posts in this thread as they have popped and I
would like to see you lose the weight and get the loss going again. My
thought is that you should buy the book and actually work the program
as Dr. Atkins, or any of the other fine Low Carb diet gurus, designed
it through their research.
In another thread, jbuch and I had a debate about something he wrote,
his 4 Success Factors for doing Atkins. I had suggested it was too
basic, s/he suggested that basic is the key. Oddly, I think it'd be
useful for you, here.
They were:
1- Eat until satisfied, not full
2- Exercise
3- Vitamins and Minerals
4- Read the Manual and Follow it.
1- You have not mentioned if you are satisfied with your eating, but I
think that if you follow the advice of the group and up the fat content
of what you eat, you will be.
2- If you are being honest (I assume this is so) and you are walking
regularly, that will suffice for exercise at the moment.
3- You have not mentioned anything about taking supplements. Fiber?
Multivit? Minerals? EFAs? You are not really doing any of the reputable
LC plans if you are not doing this.
4- Read the manual. The website is a marketing tool, designed to lure
people in, and help them get started/curious. I cannot emphasize the
need to have a book that lays out every aspect of the plan, so that it
is easier to do. Personally, I like Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution
(the 1992 or 1999 edition), Atkins for Life, or Protein Power by Dr. &
Dr. Eades, who have a show on PBS (review forthcoming, as I just found
it, and haven't watched the TiVo'd copy yet).
I could offer more specific information, but I like the socratic
method. That said, nothing goes with boneless skinless chicken breast
like infused Olive Oil, before cooking and after cooking. (I can't pick
a favorite, but some suggestions include Lemon infusion, Rosemary
infusion, Lime, Roasted Garlic, even Grapefruit). It improves the fat
profile and the flavor.
