Tony Raven said:Just had a piece on Meridian News about a student who has switched to
his bike for the next 12 months to commute to University. The only
problem is home is in Bishop's Waltham, east of Southampton and
University is in Bournemouth. 90 miles round trip and 5.5hrs normal
time. Not sure I'd like to do that daily but he seems happy about it.
is he actually doing it *daily*, or are Meridian simply exaggerating things
for the sake of a good story?
I expect he is probably living in halls or other accomodation most of the
time and making this trip every week/fortnight or so; which seems perfectly
feasible.
surely a bit risky though; over 2 hours bike ride, a day of study, perhaps
more revision in the evening and then another 2 hours back - a bit heavy on
both mind and body?
Then again I bet one of you is going to say they rode 100 miles to
University, rode back every night with panniers stuffed full of punch
cards/paper tape and printouts of Fortran to debug at home in the evening;
and got a 1st class honours 🙂
