Depends how long you are planning to ride it over. 2 days would be
going some with any luggage; 3 days is probably more like it. If 3
days you'll be wanting campsites at 40 and 80 miles or thereabouts
(assuming you are not camping wild). There is proper campsite at
Washington after crossing the A24, but that is about 50 miles. there
is a railway tunnel under the SDW at Cocking. can't think of anywhere
around Lewes apart from South heighton near Newhaven.

Thanks. Am doing it in 3 days. Leave tomorrow morning to Winchester. Bought
two maps which cover the central part. So it'll be a guess which way to go
at the start tomorrow. Really unsure on how much camping stuff to bring. Am
maybe camping wild, so don't really know what to take. Should I bring my 3
season sleeping bag? My other old rubbishy sleeping bag? Or just a cotton
spread (6x6)? Maybe the rubbishy one and the cotton spread. (It's a hammock
as well 🙂 )

Getting my camelbak cleaned and ready now. Will buy food on the way, so no
need for cooking stuff.

The pubs can be my wet weather gear.

Okay, change of plan. Hammock, decent sleeping bag and waterproof sheet for
over the top (basher?). Tent is just too heavy, and I can't be bothered. If
the weather is bad, I will B&B.

Well, I hacked it from Winchester (left midday) to Cocking for 7pm. Left
early this morning and had to pull out at Brighton (3pm) as my pannier
broke, and even got caught in the spokes. (This was after my rack broke on
the other side just before Cocking ... amazing what you can go with gaffa
tape. A very good ride (albeit hard going), and would have made Eastbourne
by 7pm easily. So, 1.5 days with two panniers overstuffed like a muppet.

I camped in a wood at Cocking, and am sure the farmer came out on his quad
to investigate me at 11.30pm. Fortunately I was well hidden. 😉

Good going, shame you did not make it. Talking of which must go back
and do the last 30 miles myself before it gets too muddy.
