You know, you're right about the character set and I have no
idea why it is chosen! I thought it might be because I use
FidoLook as a composer but in straight OE I also get
windows-1256. I'm not particularly well up on OE. Can you point
me in the right direction to find out about character sets?

Not really. My newsreader has pull-down box on the message window that
shows the current character set and allows one to select something
else. The Arabic caught my eye.

Change your newsserver. Good ones run server-side filters, such as
Cleanfeed or SpamHippo.

SPAM CASSEROLE (recipe by <[email hidden]> (Susan May))

note: this is no way, shape, or form for ANYONE watching their fat
intake!

1 can Spam, diced
1 brick Cracker Barrel Sharp White Cheese, diced
1 box elbow macaroni (shells are good, too)
1 stick butter
1 quart WHOLE milk (lo-fat or skim does not work as well)
1/2 cup flour

In a small saucepan, melt the stick of butter. Add the flour and whisk
to make a thick roux. Add the milk, whisking over medium heat until it
begins to thicken. When it begins to thicken, stir in the diced cheese,
whisk until it is very smooth with NO lumps or blobs. The sauce should
be very thin- if it is too thick whisk in a bit more milk. Cook the
elbow macaroni. Combine the macaroni, the cheese sauce, and the diced
Spam in a casserole pot. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for
about 1 hour. Enjoy!

This is certainly the worst of what *I* read,
and it's that way because the users don't CARE about spam,
they reply to it, and threads LABELED 'OT' (OFF topic)
often have the MOST messages in a thread!
