The purpose of that kind of suit probably has nothing to do with swimming.

I can almost see swimming in them, but ouch at tri would probably cause some issues. I
suppose alot of body glide and some time to build some callouses.... Some people run
without socks.

And no padding on the bike could also be a problem. I suppose somebody could make one with padding,
but I can't imagine it would be too comfortable to run in.

It's more the rules of the events that stop swimmers from using thongs. Down here in South Florida
we regularly see some people doing workouts in thongs. It gets them closer to an overall tan. We
also see both men and women on the beach in thongs. Most men are scared that some my think they are
gay. So it tends to be the more self confident, people not worried about the opinions of others, who
are seen in thongs.
