Yup. The battery could be going. That's an easy thing to check/switch and would be the first thing that I would look at. If you have a wireless unit, the battery on the sensor/sending unit could be going. Often those batteries aren't easily replaced, and it's just as easy to buy a new sensor. It doesn't sound like you have a wiring issue (if you're using a wired unit), as wiring issues typically don't display any regularity with performance based measurements. Before doing anything with the battery, though (I just thought of this), I would double check to be sure that your magnet on the spoke is not sliding or rotating out of the way of the sensor. This can be a problem with weak magnets or units with snitty sensors. You might consider getting a stronger magnet, too.

The things above are all easy to check and cost a lot less than buying a new unit or sending a unit in for repair.

Did the new battery work? My head unit seems to be functioning fine, but it's not getting a signal from the sending unit. I'm thinking it's the battery, but was curious how your issue was solved.

Obviously it is not a GPS unit, if it is than the battery is most likely the issue.

If it is a non-GPS unit then check the callibration of your sensor device.😉

You are probably correct then. It is either a new battery that is required or the speed and cadence unit itself may have malfunctioned.
