Just last week (6/19) the NY Times had an article on how it has become
nearly impossible to discern gay men from straight men based on grooming and
style. One exception noted by the Times is that only gays wear Speedos.
Just yesteday, I carved out 2.5 miles in the green Atlantic. I proudly wore
my comfortable and very visible red Speedo -- and was the only guy on the
beach with such minimalist garb.
On the other hand, I was also the only on the beach swimming 2.5 miles
(after the Ft.Walton shark story, no less). Most of the fatties out there
wade in and wade right out.
I say, if you're going to practice an unusual sport, then be prepared to use
oddball equipment.

Quoted message said:Has shame gotten so bad for some people? Yes. Does the Daily Show buy
into it? Not necessarily. But let's face it, they are a comedy show.
They need to play into that shame for the laughs.
What wasn't funny was the woman they interviewed who didn't want to see
or her children to see men on the beach wearing speedos. The horrible
truth is she's probably more the majority than minority. Until this
country gets over it's prudishness, it's going to be that way for a
while. Look at how popular Jammers are now.
