Speedplay lube

There is a metal bushing that is as long as the pedal is wide. Yours
has broken in half. The other half is still inside. You need a
rebuild kit. A rebuild kit for both pedals, including the bushings,
o-rings and the cart bearings for the X3 is about $35 at the lbs. If
one of your bushings has cracked in half, your other is probably ready
to go as well. Rebuild both. It's easy.

I ordered the Speedplay grease gun from Excel Sports... $20. Worked really
slick on my Zeros. I was done in a minute.

I got a grease gun and a suitable tip at my local hardware for about
13.00. Plews/Lubrimatic makes a small gun and a tip that fit perfectly.
Bicycle Parts Etc. sells both.

That's what Speedplay said. Good customer service. I emailed; they
asked me to call; I called and described the problem; they're sending
me new bushings, free (3 year old pedals, too). It took less than an
hour to resolve. Well done.

With the Speedplay grease gun, the seal between the tip and the port on
my Frogs isn't very tight, so I lose a lot of grease there that never
gets into the pedal. Terribly wasteful. Is this typical? Does anyone

I use Pedro's tube grease and "gun," and have had minimal leakage. Look
at http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?sku=2538 -- although Nashbar sells
the same thing for $6 less if you buy it with their degreaser. (Huh?)

(Just a happy customer, until Performance fixes that.)

You need to apply more force when you are putting the grease in. The
Dualco grease gun works very well and is available from QBP should be
no more than $12 or $13. Keeps the money w/ the LBS.

I think you're right. But it becomes a three-handed operation! You're
supposed to rotate the pedal (hand #1) while injecting the grease (hand
#2), while supporting the pedal in the rear against the pressure you're
exerting (hand #3). I guess I have to work on improving my manual
dexterity and learn to combine hands 1 and 3. <sigh> --RZ

Try this: squirt grease in, rotate pedal, squirt more in, repeat until
clear grease emerges.
