I think it's the headset.
Is turning the frame upside-down and dribbling in some Pro-link going to
help? Or will this just destroy the grease already in there?
Cheers,
Craigster.

wont go near the bits you want anyway, jut run up the centre of the post, (i think).
doubt if grease and prolink are gonna react violently but i doubt it will be lerv either.
take the forks off and use... (cue 'mfhor's library of lube'😉
I think the forks/headse are possibly the only thing on a bike i havent managed to make squeek ove the years...

Flattered you value my opinion so highly 😄
Current favoured incumbent from the grease harem (eeew! sounded better in my head) is Finish Line grease - translucent white in colour, sticks like the proverbial to the bedclothes, expensive as all get-out and worth every cent. You can buy a mini grease gun (NOT an Exus one- they break- Pedros or Bicycle Research, for choice), fit the tube of grease, open the bearings a little and just squirt some in. But if they are squeaking, it's probably time for a new pair of ballraces. If the cups are pitted (notchy feeling), it's hasta la vista baby, get the credit card out, new headset time, unless you have a hiddenset/seled bearing races then it's just step one.

Hmmm . . . now let me consult the catalogue of my 'Library of Lube' as flyingdutch so elegantly put it . . . 'Linseed Oil', linseed oil . . . 'Basement stacks, available by special request only, see also "Veterinary Medicine" "Furniture Polish" "Purgative" and 'Archaic metallic lubricant" wait, that bit's been crossed out, and had "Under review" scribbled next to it in a very fishy sort of handwriting. Hmm.
You might get very sticky knees 😄.
I've used . . . and I'm ashamed to admit it amongst those as I regard as peers . . . vegetable oil (gasp) on a chain of a very old and rusty bike I had the misfortune to hire once when overseas, and when everything was shut, and a search of the house revealed nothing more promising. At least it made the squeaking quieter.
M "how many stiff links does a chain have to have before it's a hoop?" H
Just the ticket for cricket bats, too, if memory serves 🙂

Suzy

Wha . . . ? Oh. I get it!
You're talking about . . . porridge? Breakfast in bed?
But the porridge I make is a sort of brown colour . . . ?
Please explain? 😄

What kind of lube are you putting in the porridge to make it brown? 😄 😄 😄

While you're messing around up there.. it might pay to check the
bar-to-stem clamp/join too. That's one location I constantly work loose
during my Eadie impersonations and the squeek annoys me enough that I
actually do something about it in under 6 months..

Not so much of a lube as a luddite's loctite.
Scene: Hippy & flyingdutchman are admiring bikes parked outside a Melbourne cafe (apologies to DNA)
flyingdutchman: Look, the vermilion little fish logo on the head tube. Suzy's trade mark. The girl has no shame.
Hip: I was passed by one of these mothers once, out on beach road, I was going flat out and this thing just strolled past me, campy
cranks hardly turning over. Incredible!
flyingdutchman: Wooee
Hip: Ten seconds later it smashed straight into the back of a parked car.
flyingdutchman: Yeah?
Hip: Amazing looking bike though. Looks like a fish, moves like a fish, steers like a cow.

Oh Parbs, that's _brilliant_. Should have a warning on it though, as I copped some odd looks from the coworkers when I fell off my chair laughing.

Discussion of telescopes. (Non-geeks should look away now.)
Hey Suzy have you ever heard of Clive Milnes binoculars?
I used to spend a lot of time with Clive a few years ago but haven't seen
him much lately. Clive has a lot of good ideas for astronomy and telescopes.
I know that for a while he was grinding his own mirrors.

I read a bit about him a couple of years ago, when I was making my telescope. I may have met him, as I've done a lecture or two for astronomers on the stuff that we (them wot pay me) are doing, but I'm absolutely dreadful with names.
I have a couple of Kodak CCD chips, along with a half-built camera that I was working on before my BE thesis got scary and I had to put it aside (along with the 10" classical Cassegrainian mirror that I was grinding at the time), and well since finishing the thesis it's been all about the bike. Even my 6" Dobsonian is disassembled, waiting for me to get around to making a new super-lightweight mirror box and bearings for it.
Regards,
Suzy (who has to admit her fascination with telescopes is all in the building, and not at all in the looking through)

I had a 10 inch in my back yard for a while many years ago but really only
have a passing interest in astronomy. Seeing Saturn in the flesh is pretty
cool. I think Clive re-ground that 10 inch form a F10 down to an F7.
Like you, I think building things is sometimes more fun than using them.

Hippy that's an old astronomers joke from when Galileo was just a spotty
faced teenager.
