SRAM peek

I'm sure these will be my next shifters but don't they hang a little
far from the bars?

Or maybe it's that Shimano shifters don't hang down far enough and
instead rely on longer lever? These are prototypes anyway so they might
be a little rough around the edges.

I was thinking about the latter.

The motion of the paddles is quite different, right? On Shimanos they're
going parallel to the bars so they can be really close, but on these do they
go into the bars a bit too? I should have looked a little closer at JDs
current ones.

I'm a Sram gripshifter myself 7 sets total. With only
one Shimano rear derailleur to go till I'm a whole Sram man.

Yup, on the Shazam Rocket pods, one of the levers switches up towards
the bars. They are an "all-thumbs" operation and work really well so
far. I have not broken out that bike in the last few weeks, sticking
mostly to the SS (imagine that).
