I have just bought a new SRAM red crankset off of ebay and I am concerned about the larger chain ring. The teeth are not consistent; some are a lot shorter than others. I have attached a picture. I would be grateful for anyone's opinion, and whether or not this is a usable product.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You are good to go - that is standard on the Red outside ring. Part of the chain handling design.

^What he said.

All the (good) major manufacturers do this with their chainrings and their cassettes to make for smoother, quieter, quicker and more reliable shifting. Those funky grooves/notches in the side of the large chainring are also part of the chain handling features.

What you need to worry about is when the teeth develop a "hook" on the leading edge--that indicates major wear and it's time for a replacement, but that takes many miles to develop (or not as many miles with a badly worn chain).
